Professor Adil Geybulla stated that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists had scientific predictions about the inevitability of a new influenza pandemic in the future. According to the expert, the influenza virus, being an RNA virus, mutates annually with the emergence of new strains, and the emergence of a variant capable of causing a pandemic on the scale of the "Spanish flu" is only a matter of time.

"A pandemic occurs when the contagiousness potential of a virus exceeds the capabilities of preventive measures. Every year, approximately one million people die from influenza worldwide, which is a serious figure comparable to coronavirus mortality," he said.
