A shocking discovery was made near the 2026 World Cup stadium
In Mexico, hundreds of bags with human remains were found near the stadium that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, reports Daily Star.
The gruesome discovery revealed the scale of a network of secret burial sites. According to search groups, bags with body fragments were found near Estadio Akron in Jalisco state - one of the official venues for the future World Cup. The investigation showed that the findings are linked to at least 22 hidden mass graves within a radius of about 16 kilometers from the stadium.
The first remains began to be extracted from the ground in February 2025, when builders constructing residential houses in the Las Agujas area stumbled upon plastic bags containing body fragments. Since then, families of missing persons and volunteer search groups have documented the extraction of at least 500 bags from several secret graves.
A representative of one of the search groups, Jaime Aguilar, stated that disappearances in the state are systematic. According to him, victims are "erased" without a trace.
According to Spanish publication El Pais, Jalisco state ranks fourth in Mexico for the number of missing persons. From January to November 2025 alone, 2,483 such cases were registered here.
Experts link the cases of disappearances and the discovery of burial sites to drug cartel activities. Jalisco state is considered the stronghold of the Jalisco Cartel (CJNG) - one of the most violent criminal organizations in the world. Many victims, according to human rights defenders, may have been kidnapped, deceptively recruited through fake job vacancies, forcibly taken to training camps, or killed.
