2026 World Cup: USA national team thrashes Paraguay

The United States defeated Paraguay 4-1 in a first round group stage match of the FIFA World Cup. The match took place in Los Angeles (USA, California).

For the United States, goals were scored by Folarin Balogun (31st minute, 45+5) and Giovanni Reyna (90+8). Balogun became the first player at the tournament to score more than one goal in a single match. For the losing side, Mauricio scored (73). In the 7th minute, Paraguay midfielder Damián Bobadilla put the ball into his own net, becoming the author of the first own goal at the ongoing World Cup.

The teams are competing in Group D. The quartet also includes the national teams of Turkey and Australia, who will face each other on June 14. In the next round, the Americans will play against the Australians on June 19, while the Paraguayans will meet the Turks a day later on June 20.

The World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will conclude on July 19. For the first time, 48 teams are participating in the tournament. They are divided into 12 groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32, along with the eight best third-placed teams. The reigning World Cup champions are Argentina.
