Today is the birthday of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Colonel-Shahid Ilgar Mirzoyev.
Ilgar Anzor oglu Mirzoyev was born on May 8, 1973, in the city of Gardabani, Georgian SSR.

In 1980, he entered the secondary school of his hometown, which he graduated from in 1990. In 1991, I. Mirzoyev was enrolled in the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. After completing his education in 1995, he began service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the rank of lieutenant.
In 2000, he distinguished himself in military service, for which he was promoted to the rank of major ahead of schedule.
In 2003-2005, he continued his education at the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Over the years, he served in the cities of Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Beylagan, Goranboy, and Shamkir.

During his service, he was awarded the jubilee medals "10th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1991-2001)", "90th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan (1918-2008)", "95th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan (1918-2013)", medals "For Excellence in Military Service" III degree, "Veteran of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan", "For Impeccable Service" of all three degrees.
From mid-March 2016, Armenians began to intensively violate the ceasefire. And on the night of April 1-2, the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and settlements along the entire front line were subjected to intense shelling by the enemy. On April 2-5, the intensity of fighting along the entire line of contact reached its limit.
During the battles, the Azerbaijani army struck back at Armenian positions. I. Mirzoyev commanded the N-th military unit during the military operations that went down in history as the April battles. He participated in battles on the Terter direction of the front. During the night battles, the Azerbaijani army occupied advantageous positions, strategic heights, particularly around the village of Talysh. In two hours, more than 20 posts of the Armenian army were defeated and seven strategic heights were captured.
For the courage and heroism shown during the April battles, Lieutenant Colonel I. Mirzoyev was awarded the rank of colonel. In the same year, he was awarded the orders "For Service to the Fatherland" II and III degrees.

On February 23, 2019, Ilgar Mirzoyev was appointed Chief of Artillery of the 3rd Army Corps.
On the morning of July 14, 2020, while preventing an enemy attack during fierce battles on the Tovuz direction of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, Ilgar Mirzoyev heroically died. He was buried at the II Alley of Honor in Baku.

On December 9, 2020, by order of President Ilham Aliyev, Colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev was posthumously awarded the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan".
He was married and is survived by a son and a daughter.
