Punishments for illegal abortions are being tightened in Azerbaijan

Those causing harm to human health during illegal abortion will be sentenced for up to 1 year.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to APA, this was reflected in the proposed amendment to the Criminal Code, which was submitted for discussion at today's meeting of the Milli Mejlis

According to the draft, in case of causing less serious harm to the victim's health by negligence as a result of performing an abortion outside a medical institution by a doctor or a person who does not have the appropriate higher medical education, a punishment in the form of restriction of freedom for up to one year or imprisonment for up to one year with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to two years is provided.

The bill was adopted in the third reading.
