From today, "Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY) has launched the first FLIRT train manufactured by the Swiss company "Stadler" on the Absheron ring route. This decision was made as part of the optimization of the train schedule to increase passenger satisfaction and partially regulate passenger flow.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the joint-stock company, the FLIRT train has been put into operation on the suburban route Baku–Khirdalan–Baku.

The modern single-deck train consisting of 5 cars has a capacity of up to 550 passengers (including 268 seats). The maximum speed of the train is 125 km/h, and the average speed is 85 km/h.

In connection with the launch of the FLIRT train, a new platform with a height of 550 mm was built at Biladjari station, and part of the existing platform with a height of 1100 mm in the direction of Sumgait was lowered to 550 mm. At Khirdalan station, the existing platform was also adapted to a height of 550 mm.

The train makes 10 trips daily, covering the distance from Baku to Khirdalan in 21 minutes, and the return journey in 22 minutes. According to the new schedule, the FLIRT train departing from Khirdalan at 06:53 arrives in Baku at 07:15, creating additional opportunities for those who start work at 8 o'clock. The next trip from Khirdalan to Baku on the FLIRT train is scheduled for 08:00.

The new FLIRT train is equipped with modern safety systems, including movement interval control and maintaining optimal distance between trains, automatic speed regulation and warning of exceeding speed limits, emergency stop mechanism, train stopping in case of an accident or unauthorized movement, integration with signaling systems, and driver receiving warnings and instructions. In addition, the train provides data recording in the form of files and fault analysis.

The measures taken by ADY to ensure unhindered, fast, and safe transportation, increase capacity and passenger flow on the Absheron ring railway route, play an important role in achieving the main goals specified in the "Mobility Transformation Program in the city of Baku and adjacent territories for 2025-2030" and the "State Program for Improving Transport Infrastructure in the city of Baku and adjacent territories for 2025-2030", making a significant contribution to ensuring urban mobility.
