Azerbaijan Considers Proposal to Reduce Military Service Term Impractical## Conversation
The proposal to reduce the term of compulsory military service in Azerbaijan for citizens with secondary education from 18 to 12 months, and for those with higher education - from 12 to 6 months was deemed impractical.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this is indicated in the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2024, which is being considered on Friday at the plenary session of the Milli Mejlis.
According to the document, although this proposal could reduce government spending, its implementation requires large-scale military and political reforms.
"To reduce the service term, changes to the law 'On Military Duty and Military Service' would be required. Against the background of persistent regional threats, such changes could complicate the process of staffing the army with sergeants and privates," the report states.
