Is Iran capable of influencing the plans of Armenia and the United States?
Iran has repeatedly stated regarding the Zangezur corridor that it is its "red line" and that Tehran "can create certain problems." We are once again seeing a return to the previous rhetoric, and this raises quite serious questions.
This was stated by the chairman of the REAL party, Natig Jafarli, on the Aktual Gündəm ("Current Agenda") program on Baku TV.
According to him, the main subject of discussion now is how exactly Iran can technically prevent the implementation of this project:
"We are talking about a road passing through the territory of Armenia and an agreement concluded between Yerevan and Washington. How can Tehran prevent the fulfillment of this agreement?
The option of deploying troops looks unrealistic - such a step is simply inconceivable. Of course, one can consider the scenario of political and economic pressure on Armenia. But here another question arises: what will happen if, in response to Iran's pressure, Armenia receives even more powerful political and economic support from the United States? Will Yerevan yield to Tehran, or will it, relying on American support, try to see the project through to completion?
That is why it is time to set aside loud statements and analyze what specific instruments Iran actually has 'on the ground' for technically countering the project," noted N. Jafarli.
