A digital management system should also be implemented in the water sector. I want to emphasize once again that to improve water supply on the Absheron Peninsula, a water desalination plant will be built in our country for the first time. This process has already begun.

This was said by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during his speech at a meeting dedicated to the State Program for improving water supply, rainwater, and wastewater systems in the city of Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula for 2026-2035.

"The advantage of this project is that it will be implemented exclusively through foreign investment. This will allow us to increase the volume of water coming to Baku and the Absheron Peninsula. There is also technological development in this area. The Caspian Sea water is not very salty, which means there is complete confidence that as a result of desalination, the population will be provided with clean and high-quality drinking water, and at the same time, a large source for irrigation will be created.

The Samur-Absheron Water Canal. We rebuilt it from scratch in its time. It is a completely concrete canal, and losses there are quite insignificant. But measures are still planned to develop the infrastructure of this canal to ensure sustainable water supply to the Jeyranbatan reservoir. Today, water comes to Baku from five sources. The sixth will be the water desalination plant, and, of course, this flow must be fully ensured," noted the head of state.
