Good neighborliness, cooperation, and joint work among the countries of the region are one of the foundations of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Report, this was stated by the assistant to the president of Azerbaijan - head of the foreign policy department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev in an interview with Jeffrey Sachs.
"We have built strong partnerships, and in a number of cases - allied relations with our neighbors," he said.
As an example, Hajiyev cited relations with Russia, and also noted historical and friendly ties with Iran, shared culture and traditions.
He added that Azerbaijan is united with the countries of Central Asia by culture, linguistic closeness, history, and traditions.
"With the countries of Central Asia, our brothers on the other shore of the Caspian Sea, we say that the Caspian does not divide us but unites us. By the unanimous political decision of our Central Asian brothers, Azerbaijan became a participant in the consultative council of Central Asia. I also say that this is not just 'five plus one,' not only a matter of mathematics. It is a matter of chemistry, of fusion. Now Central Asia is becoming 'C6,' because Azerbaijan also belongs to this culture," Hajiyev stated.
