Foreign Ministers of OIC Countries Adopted a Resolution Supporting Somalia's Territorial Integrity
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev took part in an emergency meeting of the council of foreign ministers of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Somalia.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan, the meeting was held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The purpose of the event is to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia amid attempts to recognize the Somaliland region as an independent state, as well as to discuss possible joint steps in this direction.
In his speech, Y.Rafiyev expressed Azerbaijan's support for the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Deputy Minister noted that as an active member of the OIC Contact Group on Somalia, Azerbaijan will support the collective efforts of the international community, in particular the member countries of the organization, in connection with this issue.
Emphasizing our country's commitment to the norms and principles of international law, a call was made to the international community to act responsibly and in accordance with the law to establish peace, stability and security in various regions, including the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin.
Following the 22nd extraordinary meeting of the OIC foreign ministers, the member states adopted a resolution expressing unequivocal and resolute support for Somalia and its territorial integrity.
