Today, October 21, marks the Day of Liberation of the settlement of Minjivan in the Zangilan district from Armenian occupation.

Six years have passed since this settlement was liberated from the Armenian invaders.

On October 21, 2020, along with the settlement of Minjivan, the following Zangilan villages were liberated: Babayly, Uchunju Aghaly, Saryl, Khumarly, Hajally, Khurama, Turabad, Jahangirbeyly, Ichari Mushlan, Giragh Mushlan, Malikli, Udgun, Baharli, as well as the Jabrayil villages of Balyand, Papy, Tulus, Tinli, and the Fuzuli villages of Gejyagozlu, Ashaghy Seyidahmedli, and Zargar.

It should be noted that Minjivan is located on the bank of the Araz River. It was founded in 1795-1798 after families from the village of Minjivan in Southern Azerbaijan resettled in this territory. In the 19th century, two villages with this name were registered in the Zangezur district.

Minjivan was occupied by the armed forces of Armenia in 1993. Before the occupation, the settlement had schools, libraries, kindergartens, and a railway station. After the first Karabakh war, the Armenians destroyed everything in the settlement and dismantled the railway. Some of the rails were sold, while the rest were used to create anti-tank fortifications.
