Today is the birthday of the deputy commander of the second corps of the Azerbaijani army, National Hero, Colonel Shukur Hamidov.

As reported by BAKU.WS, he became a martyr on October 22, 2020, in the battles for the liberation of Gubadly. He is buried in the II Alley of Martyrs.

Sh. Hamidov was born on April 1, 1975, in the village of Armudlu in the Gubadly district. In 1982, he entered the first grade of the secondary school in the village of Basharat in the same district. In 1993, he graduated from the Jamshid Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum. That same year, he enrolled in the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School (BHCACS).

After the occupation of the Gubadly district by Armenians on August 31, 1993, the Hamidov family moved to Sumgayit, where they lived in a dormitory.

After completing his higher military education in 1995, by order of the Ministry of Defense, Sh. Hamidov was assigned to military units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan stationed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, where he served for 11 years.

From June 7, 1995, to June 22, 1999, he served as commander of a motorized rifle platoon of the N-th military unit in Julfa.

Later, Sh. Hamidov was appointed deputy commander of the 2nd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.

For his distinction in the April 2016 battles during the liberation of the strategic Lele Tepe height in the direction of the Jabrayil district, he was awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan by a corresponding decree of President Ilham Aliyev.

On May 10, 2016, by order of Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, Sh. Hamidov was promoted to the out-of-turn military rank of colonel; at that moment, he was at positions in the direction of Lele Tepe.

During the Patriotic War that began on September 27, 2020, he participated in battles for Jabrayil, Fuzuli, and Gubadly.

Sh. Hamidov died heroically on October 22. He is survived by two children.

By corresponding decrees of President Ilham Aliyev, Shukur Hamidov was posthumously awarded the "Zafar" order, as well as the medals "For the Motherland," "For the Liberation of Fuzuli," "For the Liberation of Jabrayil," and "For the Liberation of Gubadly."
