The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Britain's BP have signed a cooperation agreement in the field of seismic and well research in the Caspian Basin.

This was reported by BAKU.WS with reference to SOCAR.

According to the agreements, the parties will carry out an advanced seismic study using innovative technologies to create a regional pseudo-3D seismic cube through the integration and unification of previously collected data. It is noted that this will be the first project of its kind in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The pseudo-3D seismic volume being created will significantly improve the quality of regional geological interpretation by reducing dependence on disparate 2D seismic profiles.

This approach will enable basin-wide 3D mapping, a deeper understanding of oil and gas potential, and a reduction in exploration risks in the implementation of future projects in the Caspian Basin.

As part of the cooperation, SOCAR will provide BP with 2D seismic profiles, well data, and geological samples. In turn, BP will handle the processing of seismic materials and conduct laboratory analyses of the samples. The pseudo-3D seismic dataset will be compiled by a contractor company possessing modern technical capabilities and a proven track record of implementing this technology.
