Currently, there are no new initiatives in the context of reducing customs tariff rates in Azerbaijan.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Baku TV, this was stated in an interview with Report and İTV by the Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) Shahin Bagirov.

He noted that one of the main priorities of the tariff policy pursued to support economic activity in our country is the application of exemption mechanisms across various sectors.

"I would like to emphasize that the volume of exemptions is indeed quite significant. The purpose of these benefits is to stimulate economic activity, create added value, expand production capacities, and increase productivity," said Sh. Bagirov.

According to him, in 2025, with an import volume of 18.1 billion dollars, 29.5% of exemptions were granted on value-added tax, and 52.5% on customs duties.

"This amounted to 3 billion 424 million manats. The figure is quite large. In the corresponding period of 2026, that is, over 5 months, these percentage indicators are similar. That is why the government is conducting relevant discussions on the effectiveness of this issue," the head of the SCC added.

Sh. Bagirov also emphasized that the main part of exemptions applies not to finished products, but to industrial equipment, spare parts, and intermediate goods, and the ultimate goal of all this is to facilitate the expansion of export opportunities in the future.
