WhatsApp users urged to update the app due to dangerous vulnerability

Windows device owners are strongly advised to immediately update the WhatsApp application to the current version due to a discovered serious security vulnerability. Information about this threat was distributed by the specialized resource Anti-Malware.
The discovered critical vulnerability, officially designated as CVE-2025-30401, poses a danger to all users of outdated messenger versions up to build 2.2450.6. Cybersecurity specialists have determined that this defect is related to incorrect processing of attachments, which allows cybercriminals to manipulate victims by encouraging them to open files containing malicious code.
Technical analysis showed that the problem lies in the mechanism for identifying and displaying attached files. The messenger identifies the file type based on the MIME format, for example, recognizing it as a regular image, but when opening it focuses on the file extension, such as ".exe". This discrepancy creates an opportunity for launching malicious software instead of what appears at first glance to be a harmless document. All users whose WhatsApp version is below the critical mark of 2.2450.6 are at increased risk.
Developers have already released a patch that completely eliminates this vulnerability in the latest application update. Information security experts emphasize the particular danger of such vulnerabilities, as they exploit users' natural trust in the security of the popular messenger.
