The last member of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee Vadim Medvedev has died.

It is specified that the politician was 96 years old.
Medvedev was the secretary of the CPSU Central Committee from 1986-1990, and a member of the Politburo from 1988-1990. Afterward, he was a member of the Presidential Council and an advisor to the first president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev.
The CPSU Central Committee (Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union) was the highest party body between CPSU congresses. It directed the activities of the party and, essentially, the entire Soviet Union, as the CPSU was the ruling party.
