France seeks to strengthen influence in Syria amid US troop withdrawal

Against the backdrop of the partial withdrawal of American troops from Syria, claims have spread that France intends to expand its military presence in this country and act as a mediator between Turkey and the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The report notes that French President Emmanuel Macron has begun to take into account Turkey's interests in Syria, recognizing Ankara's growing influence in the region.
According to available data, Paris plans to increase the number of its military personnel in the northeast of this country. There are also reports of France's behind-the-scenes efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Turkey and the SDF.
