British woman deceived women online for years by pretending to be a man

UK resident Adele Rennie pretended to be a man for 15 years and deceived women on the internet; around 100 people may have fallen victim to the fraudster. This is reported by the British press.

According to BAKU.WS referencing Daily Star, Rennie posed as Dr. David Graham and actively corresponded with women using a voice-changing app. Some of the victims admitted they fell in love with the persona she created, but suspicions arose when the "doctor" systematically avoided face-to-face meetings.

It's reported that the women joined a private group and began their own investigation. They gathered evidence, took screenshots, and checked photos through search engines, establishing that Adele Rennie was hiding behind the fictitious name, and many images were stolen from Instagram (Meta, the company that owns Instagram, is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).

In April 2025, the court sent Rennie to prison for the fourth time - she violated a ban on contacting one of her victims and wrote to her just 11 days after her release. Earlier, in September 2024, the woman was sentenced to two years and four months in prison for four offenses, including stalking. Before that, she had already served sentences for similar crimes in 2017 and 2019.

One of the victims, former "Miss Scotland" finalist Abby Draper, said she met "Dr. Graham" in 2014 when her grandfather was hospitalized with a stroke. The man claimed to be her relative's attending physician, but it was later discovered that Rennie actually worked as a nurse at the same hospital.

Cybersecurity expert Rory Innes emphasized that he was most struck by the duration of the deception, as well as the fact that victims were forced to investigate the situation themselves, exposing themselves to additional risks. The fraudster's mother, Christine, admitted that it's difficult for her to come to terms with what happened, especially considering her daughter's inclusion in the sex offenders registry.
