A simple way to protect against type 2 diabetes revealed
Chinese researchers have discovered an unusual ally in the fight against type 2 diabetes - traditional Liubao tea. Experiments on mice showed that its extract lowers blood sugar levels, improves fat metabolism, and protects the liver from inflammatory processes. The work is published in the journal Nutrients.
The effectiveness of the beverage is connected not only with its composition but also with its influence on gut microbiota. The extract reduced the number of harmful bacteria and increased the proportion of those that produce short-chain fatty acids. These molecules strengthen the protective barrier of the intestine and help the liver cope with stress.
When scientists suppressed the microbiota using antibiotics, the positive effect of the tea disappeared. This confirmed that the main mechanism of its action is based precisely on interaction with intestinal microorganisms.
According to the study authors, regular consumption of Liubao tea could become a simple and safe way to prevent type 2 diabetes. Active compounds were also found in its composition - quercetin, luteolin, and genistein, which in the future may form the basis of new antidiabetic drugs.
