90 kg of Dubai chocolate confiscated at Hamburg airport
At Hamburg Airport, customs officials detained a 33-year-old passenger who tried to import a large batch of chocolate from Dubai to Germany - 90 kilograms of bars with pistachio paste.
The traveler distributed the cargo among three suitcases, packing a total of 460 bars weighing 200 grams each. The goods were not declared according to EU customs regulations.
According to the detained woman, the cost of one bar was 4.60 euros, while similar products are sold on the European market for approximately 25 euros.
The customs service concluded that the chocolate was intended for commercial sale. Additionally, the woman did not pay import duties amounting to 330 euros. The packaging lacked information about ingredients and possible allergens, which made it impossible to confirm the safety of the products.
The confiscated chocolate is subject to re-export or destruction. An investigation has been initiated against the passenger for possible tax evasion, however, she was not placed under arrest.
