Renowned Turkish historian İlber Ortaylı has passed away.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Turkish media, the scholar had been on a ventilator in recent times. The 78-year-old historian was widely known for his fundamental research in the field of Ottoman and modern Turkish history.

For his contribution to historical science, İlber Ortaylı was awarded numerous international prizes. In 2007, Vladimir Putin awarded him the prestigious "Pushkin Prize."
