A huge airplane-sized asteroid is heading toward Earth
NASA scientists announced that on March 18, asteroid 2026 FB, roughly the size of an airplane, will fly past Earth.
This was reported by The Times of India, citing a statement from the US space agency.
"Today, asteroid 2026 FB, the size of an airplane, will fly past Earth at a speed of 34,000 miles (approximately 55,000 meters - ed.) per hour," the report states.
According to researchers, the width of the space object is approximately 21 meters. At its closest approach, the distance to Earth will be about 1.1 million kilometers. As experts clarified, this is significantly farther than the Moon's orbit, which is on average about 385,000 kilometers from us.
At the same time, the asteroid poses no threat to the planet. NASA experts explained that even if such an object were to enter the atmosphere, it would most likely burn up and not reach the planet's surface.
