Sport 11

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov said that he will end his coaching career when Usman and Umar Nurmagomedov, as well as Islam Makhachev, leave the sport, reports BAKU.WS with reference to Red Corner MMA.

"My priorities in MMA are Usman, Umar, and Islam. When they finish their careers, I will leave too," said Khabib.

Nurmagomedov's last fight took place in the fall of 2020, when he defeated American Justin Gaethje at a UFC tournament. Immediately after the fight, he announced his retirement from professional career, explaining that he had promised his mother not to fight without his father. After ending his career, Nurmagomedov founded the Eagle FC promotion.

On January 31, Conor McGregor challenged Khabib to a fight. In October 2018, Khabib defeated McGregor at UFC 229. The fight ended in the fourth round.

In September 2025, coach Javier Mendez recalled how he advised Khabib to lose.
