The number of medals received by Azerbaijani athletes at the III CIS Games exceeds the total number of awards at previous similar tournaments.

BAKU.WS, citing report, informs that the country's representatives won a total of 184 medals at the competitions that concluded yesterday.

Of these, 33 are gold, 56 silver, and 95 bronze. Azerbaijan took second place in the medal standings.

The I CIS Games were organized in 2021 in Kazan, Russia. Then, Azerbaijani athletes received 60 medals. Of these, 15 gold, 16 silver, and 29 bronze. The country took fourth place in the medal standings.

The II CIS Games took place in 2023 in the capital of Belarus, Minsk. This time we took fourth place in the medal standings with 62 awards (10 gold, 17 silver, 35 bronze).

In the III CIS Games, Azerbaijan was represented by 340 athletes, Pakistan - 4, Russia - 262, Uzbekistan - 254, Belarus - 240, Kazakhstan - 147, Tajikistan - 144, Kyrgyzstan - 126, Turkmenistan - 48, Turkey - 38, Kuwait - 6, and Oman - 4 athletes.

Competitions were held in 23 sports (archery, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, kayaking and canoeing, chovkan, fencing, U-16 football, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, karate, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, sambo, shooting, skeet shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, trampoline, volleyball, women's wrestling, freestyle wrestling) at 12 venues.

It should be noted that the III CIS Games were held this year from September 28 to October 8 in seven cities - Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi.
