The "Sugovushan" reservoir, playing a key role in the ecological restoration of the region

The "Sugovushan" reservoir, restored after many years of occupation, is today not just a technical facility, but a strategically important source of life support, playing a key role in the ecological revival of the region. Thanks to this reservoir, thousands of hectares of cropland in the Terter district and adjacent territories are being irrigated.

This, in turn, contributes to the development of agriculture and the maintenance of ecological balance.

The chief engineer of the Terterchay Hydraulic Complex Operation Department, Hafiz Safarov, told Baku TV that during the Armenian occupation, the reservoir was not used and the facility fell into an extremely poor condition.

After the historic victory of the Azerbaijani army in 2020, large-scale reconstruction and major repair works began in the area.

According to H. Safarov, in 2023, the "Sugovushan" reservoir was completely restored and brought to operational readiness. He also emphasized that the main canals, which were used as defensive fortifications during the occupation period, suffered serious damage. As part of the restoration work, 5,200 m of the right-bank main canal and 20.2 km of the left-bank canal were reconstructed. In addition, all hydraulic structures have been updated in accordance with modern standards.

It is noted that the implemented projects make a significant contribution to improving the water supply of the region, sustainable development of agriculture, and environmental restoration.
