President of Azerbaijan received credentials of newly appointed Ambassador of Palestine

On June 15, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to our country, Ahmed Metani.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state.

Then President Ilham Aliyev had a conversation with the ambassador.

Noting that our peoples are connected by friendly and brotherly relations, the head of state expressed confidence that during his tenure in our country, the ambassador would witness this. He emphasized that the ties between our peoples are also an important factor in interstate relations. Stating that joint efforts will continue to be made to expand cooperation, the President of Azerbaijan in this context touched upon the importance of various high-level mutual visits. Noting bilateral political ties, the head of state emphasized mutual support and solidarity between our countries. President Ilham Aliyev once again emphasized that Azerbaijan always supports the legitimate demand of the Palestinian people, the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the two-state principle and relevant UN resolutions, as well as Palestine's fair position in votes held on the Palestinian issue at the UN General Assembly. Recalling the humanitarian aid provided by our country to Palestine, the President of Azerbaijan said that it will continue in the future.

With satisfaction emphasizing that the Palestinian embassy in our country has been operating for a long time, President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the support provided for this by the Azerbaijani state.

The head of state noted that Azerbaijan constantly strives to strengthen Islamic solidarity, and this is always highly appreciated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its governing bodies. Announcing that next year Azerbaijan will host a summit of this organization, the head of state regarded the selection of our country as the venue for such a prestigious event as a sign of goodwill from the entire Muslim world. He expressed hope that Palestine would also be represented at a high level at this summit.

Ahmed Metani conveyed to the head of our state the greetings of the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked for the greetings and asked to convey his greetings to Mahmoud Abbas.

The head of state recalled with satisfaction the official visit of the President of Palestine to our country, as well as meetings with him during international events.

The ambassador noted that it is a great honor for him to be received by the head of state on June 15 - the Day of National Salvation. He emphasized that with the coming to power of national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1993, our country emerged from a difficult situation. "We always wish Azerbaijan progress, as well as higher achievements and prosperity," said the ambassador, noting that thanks to the wise, far-sighted policy and leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, our country has become a very important state in the region and at the global level.

During the conversation, views were exchanged on the prospects for cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres, and satisfaction was expressed with interaction and mutual support within the framework of international organizations.
