President: Much has already been done to bring our infrastructures into compliance with the required standards
To date, much has already been done to bring our transport and logistics infrastructure in line with the necessary standards. Our seaport can now handle 15 million tons of cargo, and after expansion, its capacity will increase to 25 million tons. Our railways are being modernized. A new railway is being built that will pass through Armenia and then become another extension of the Middle Corridor. Nine international airports, one of the largest, and possibly the largest, cargo airline in the region. All of this is already our asset.
As reported by BAKU.WS, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this at a meeting with a delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
"If you add to this the growing interest in transport connectivity projects, especially between Azerbaijan and Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Europe, then we are most likely one of the few or the only country that can unite these countries, given our experience in pipeline construction. After all, building a pipeline is a complex and expensive undertaking, and with our geographical conditions, when you have to pass through mountains and then along the seabed, this is indeed a big challenge. Moreover, when building a pipeline, especially one 3,500 km long, whose route begins from the Caspian Sea and ends in Italy and passes through several countries, you need to be able to maintain good relations with everyone you work with. And in this vast region, only we have this experience. I am not saying this to praise Azerbaijan, but this is reality," the head of state emphasized.
