Baku considers unacceptable Paris's attempts to question the legitimacy of demands put forward by the Azerbaijani side for signing a final peace with Yerevan, in particular regarding the need for amendments to the Armenian constitution.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this is stated in the commentary of the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizade regarding the statements of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, made on April 2 in the French parliament.

"In this regard, we consider unacceptable the French minister's attempts to question the legitimacy of these demands, as well as statements that the Azerbaijani side is allegedly putting forward new conditions for signing a peace treaty. If France truly advocates for the earliest signing of a peace agreement, it should facilitate Armenia's adoption of the necessary steps for this," the statement says.

Commenting on Barrot's statements about the trial of Armenian separatists accused of war and other serious crimes, Hajizade stated that Azerbaijan has the right to investigate such crimes against the Azerbaijani people and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"The conclusion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention dated March 13, 2025, once again confirmed this and proved the groundlessness of the campaign to discredit the judicial process. In general, instead of interfering in judicial processes in other countries, it would be more appropriate for the French side to first investigate the facts of political persecution and killings of protest participants in France itself. Paris is also involved in the torture of indigenous populations in overseas territories as part of its neocolonial policy, and the parliament is mired in corruption," the statement says.

As an example, the Foreign Ministry representative pointed to the French minister's refusal to answer a deputy's question at the same legislative body session.

"Barrot was told about the unacceptability of Paris's interference in the rule of law issues in other states when France's own judicial system is used as a means of pressure on political opponents. And he noted that he cannot comment on the decision of the French court. This is another evidence of double standards in French policy," Hajizade emphasized and called on official Paris to stop actions that undermine peace and stability in the region.
