Our relations are built on a solid foundation — these are historical ties, cultural ties, spiritual ties. We regularly hold performances by creative ensembles. Just recently, at the beginning of this month, Days of Azerbaijani Culture were held both in Ashgabat and in Arkadag. And last year, cultural figures from Turkmenistan visited us for Days of Culture both in Baku and in Ganja.

This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking at a joint press statement with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

"I should also say that Baku and Ashgabat are twin cities, just as Arkadag and Fuzuli are. All of this is a demonstration of our unity. We strive to fill our cooperation with concrete substance and deepen our interaction.

I would also like to once again express gratitude to the Turkmen side for their active support of Azerbaijan's admission as a full member of the Consultative Council of Heads of Central Asian States. I regard this event as historic, since, although we are not geographically Central Asia, our cultural and historical ties, as well as the specific issues we are addressing today regarding regional interaction and the resolution of transport and logistics challenges, naturally create the prerequisites for the greater Central Asian region to be viewed as a single geopolitical and geoeconomic region. And, naturally, from the very first day we began to actively interact in a multilateral format as well.
