Ilham Aliyev named the condition for signing a peace agreement with Armenia

The Constitution of Armenia still contains a provision that questions the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

As reported by BAKU.WS, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this in an interview with the Saudi TV channel "Al-Arabiya".

The head of state noted that negotiations lasted several years and concluded in Washington with the active support of President Trump and his team:

"I believe that this is truly the end of the conflict, the end of the war. Formally, a peace agreement was not signed for one specific reason: the constitution of Armenia still contains a provision that questions the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan".

"As far as we understand, they will make an amendment. And as soon as this constitutional amendment is made, as soon as territorial claims against Azerbaijan are removed, an official peace agreement will be signed. But the very fact of the initialing of this document by Azerbaijan and Armenia in the White House in the presence of President Trump already means the end of a war that has lasted, with interruptions, for more than thirty years. This opens up completely new opportunities for the South Caucasus region and for the wider region of Central Asia and the Middle East," emphasized the president.
