Former chairman of the Council of Elders of Imishli district has been sentenced
The court proceedings in the criminal case of former Chairman of the Council of Elders of Imishli District, Saleh Samedov, arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan, have concluded.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, the verdict was announced at the final session of the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.
S. Mamedov was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment.
It should be recalled that at the previous hearing, the prosecutor supporting the state prosecution proposed sentencing Samedov to 9 years of imprisonment, as well as depriving him of the right to hold certain positions for a period of three years.
It should be noted that last year Saleh Samedov attracted attention after participating in an event dedicated to May 9 — Victory Day over Fascism. His appearance under the USSR flag with a St. George's ribbon on his chest, which is considered a symbol of the Russian Empire, caused public outrage.
Following this scandal, Samedov was removed from his position, and an investigation was launched against him. Later, the SSS identified signs of corruption crimes in his actions, after which charges were brought against him.
Samedov was charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement or misappropriation on a large scale) and 308.1 (abuse of official authority) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
