On October 12, the 67th General Assembly of the International Association of Judges (IAJ - International Association of Judges) began its work at the Baku Congress Center.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the Chairman of the Union of Judges of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Rzayev, read out the address of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to the participants of the 67th General Assembly of the International Association of Judges.

The opening ceremony of the assembly was attended by about 300 representatives from 71 countries around the world - judges, lawyers, representatives of governments and international organizations, as well as renowned experts on legal matters.

Within the framework of the General Assembly, which will last until October 17, elections of the organization's governing bodies will be held, the situation in the judicial and legal systems of various states, current problems and positive experiences will be discussed. In addition, familiarization with the judicial and legal system of Azerbaijan as the host country is planned.

On October 14, an international conference will be held on the topic "Relations between the Judiciary and Other Branches of Power." It will provide a detailed analysis of the role of courts in ensuring the rule of law.

Within the framework of the assembly, it is also planned to conduct elections for the president of the International Association of Judges.

In addition, from October 12 to 17, an exhibition entitled "Symbols of Justice" will take place. The exhibition will present robes, orders, badges belonging to nearly 150 judges, lawyers and public prosecutors from 80 countries around the world, as well as stamps and banknotes.

It should be noted that the main goal of the International Association of Judges, founded in 1953, is to protect the independence of the judiciary in the world. Currently, the organization unites judicial associations from 93 countries and holds annual meetings only in those countries where the rule of law and independence of the judiciary are ensured.

The decision to hold the General Assembly in Baku in 2025 was made last year in Cape Town, South Africa, by secret ballot of the organization's members.
