Azerbaijan, SCO and regional security

The modern international situation, characterized by geopolitical tensions, trade confrontation, climate change, global security challenges, and in recent years - such a new phenomenon as proxy wars, requires greater caution from states, and more active and closer cooperation from regional and international organizations. In this context, a special role belongs to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) - the largest regional association by population and territorial coverage.

"In brief, let us remind you that this organization was formed relatively recently - only in 2001. And, as can be guessed from its name, it was established in Shanghai with the participation of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Later, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus joined it. And today, the SCO includes a whole range of observers and dialogue partners, among which are two brotherly states - Azerbaijan and Turkey. Azerbaijan received the status of a dialogue partner in the SCO in 2015, and a year later, a memorandum was signed defining the main areas of interaction. Over the past years, Azerbaijan has actively participated in the organization's events," - the material states.
