Anaclaudia Rossbach: It is important to treat housing not simply as shelter, but as an investment and an industry
"There is another fundamentally important approach to the housing issue: housing must be viewed as a full-fledged industry. The housing sector has a very long value chain that encompasses both large and small businesses."
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by UN-Habitat Executive Director Anaclaudia Rossbach during her speech at the session "Housing at the Center of Crisis Response and Recovery," organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
She emphasized that investments in housing create a multiplier effect for the development of the local economy:
"People's incomes grow, a positive cycle is triggered in society, and at the same time it has an impact on the country's GDP. That is why it is important to treat housing not simply as 'shelter,' but as an investment and an industry. After all, this approach is the foundation of the recovery and reconstruction process. In the end, both people and the economy benefit, and the invested funds create significantly greater value."
