"More than 270 thousand hectares of territory have already been cleared of mines."

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by Ramil Jahangirov, Head of the Project Management Department of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, speaking at the event "Post-Conflict Urban Reconstruction: The Decisive Role of Humanitarian Demining," held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum.

He reported that ongoing consultations are being conducted to identify the most contaminated territories and zones with a relatively lower level of risk:

"Currently, we are facing enormous figures: more than 270 thousand hectares of territory have already been cleared." R. Jahangirov emphasized that for ANAMA specialists, clearing every square meter poses an immense challenge, as the threat is present everywhere. According to him, danger sometimes arises in the most unexpected places — in mountainous areas and even in zones where active combat operations were not conducted. That is precisely why the complete clearance of every populated area is of critical importance.

The department head also noted the importance of the phased implementation of master plans for the territories: "The projects presented to date and the houses built belong to the first phase of the restoration of these villages and cities. To ensure a phased approach, coordination with the demining organization is necessary, and construction work should begin only after the complete clearance of the first-phase territory."
