Zelensky reacts to Lavrov's statements about drone attack on Putin's residence
The statement of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the alleged attack by Ukrainian drones on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin does not correspond to reality and may be made as a justification for strikes on Kyiv.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Interfax-Ukraine," this was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to journalists on Monday evening.
"Another lie from Russia. It's clear that yesterday we had a meeting with Trump, and it's clear that for the Russians, if there's no scandal between us and America - and we're making progress - it's a failure for them. Because they don't want to end this war; they're only capable of ending it through pressure on them. So they were looking - I'm sure - they were looking for reasons in this," Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine noted that he "expected some rhetoric" from the Russian side as early as Sunday, when he met with US President Donald Trump. He emphasized that this could be a justification for strikes on Kyiv. The head of state recalled that in September, there was a missile strike on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. "Therefore, everyone needs to be careful now, absolutely everyone. A strike may be carried out on the capital...", Zelensky said.
"In principle, President Trump, his team, the Europeans, I believe, need to get involved and conduct appropriate work with the people who just yesterday were saying they really want to end the war," added Zelensky.
Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia's negotiating position would be reconsidered in light of Ukraine's attempt to attack the Russian president's residence. "We draw attention to the fact that this action was carried out during intensive negotiations between Russia and the United States on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Such reckless actions will not go unanswered. The objects of retaliatory strikes and the time of their delivery by the Russian Armed Forces have been determined. At the same time, we do not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States," the minister said.
