US officials have not ruled out that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is "very close"
The Washington administration believes that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may take place soon.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this claim was made by the Axios portal, citing a representative of US President Donald Trump's administration.
"We are very close to a meeting between Putin and Zelensky," the Axios source said, adding that additional trilateral negotiations must be organized before this.
"We think we're not far from it. If we continue moving on the current course, we will get there," he believes.
As the portal notes, the American administration believes that the trilateral negotiations between representatives of Russia, the US, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi (UAE) went "as well as [Washington] could have imagined."
"We are satisfied with where we are now," Axios quotes a source from among US officials.
