The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations warned about possible tsunami waves approaching the peninsula's coast, with the greatest height expected in the area of Cape Mayachny and Khalaktyrsky Beach - up to 120 centimeters. The US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude at 7.4. According to their data, the earthquake occurred 111 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, with the epicenter at a depth of 39.5 kilometers.

Recall that on the night of July 30, the strongest earthquake since 1952 occurred in the Kamchatka Territory. According to various estimates, its magnitude was 8.7. The exact number of victims was not reported. After the main earthquake, there were 30 more noticeable aftershocks with an intensity of 2-5 points. Following this, four tsunami waves hit Severo-Kurilsk in the Sakhalin region - the height of the waves exceeded 3 meters. Due to the tsunami threat, authorities in Japan, the USA, Canada, and other countries on the coast south of New Zealand evacuated residents.
