The Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II has passed away at the age of 93

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II passed away in a clinic at the age of 93.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Georgian media, the Patriarchate had earlier announced the emergency hospitalization of Ilia II in Tbilisi due to a sharp deterioration in his condition and massive gastric bleeding.

His condition was then described as "problematic but stable."

"The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, has passed away at the age of 93," the statement said.

The head of the Public Relations Department of the Patriarchate, Archpriest Andria Jagmaidze, in turn reported that the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness Ilia II, will be buried on March 18 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
