Shooting occurred near the White House, Trump was not injured

A shooting occurred near the White House in Washington, after which U.S. Secret Service agents temporarily removed journalists from the North Lawn and heightened security measures.

According to CNN, the Secret Service was investigating reports of gunshots at the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, located near the White House complex. Following the incident, armed agents were seen on the North Lawn, and the press briefing room was temporarily locked down.

DC News Now correspondent Chris Flanagan reported that U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident. Subsequently, PBS, citing its correspondent Liz Landers, reported that the head of state was unharmed and safe.

According to Fox News, the incident near the White House has been resolved, and the armed individual has been neutralized. The network noted that he was unable to breach the secured grounds of the U.S. presidential residence and had only approached its perimeter.

It is reported that the individual armed with a handgun fired at least three shots. The U.S. Secret Service returned fire at the assailant, and he was neutralized.

CBS reported that the shooter survived and was hospitalized in critical condition, while an injured bystander was in serious condition. Later, the Secret Service announced that doctors at the medical facility pronounced the shooter dead.

The New York Post reports that the 21-year-old Black man who opened fire had mental health issues and believed himself to be Jesus Christ.
