Robert Fico: Slovakia is discussing swap gas supplies from Azerbaijan
Slovakia has high hopes that peace talks to resolve the conflict in Ukraine will allow the resumption of Russian gas transit to Europe through Ukrainian territory, and is also discussing blue fuel supplies with Azerbaijan.
This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on European affairs before departing for the European Union summit in Brussels.
"We are negotiating, primarily with Azerbaijan, about swap gas supplies, as we are trying to find alternative sources. However, this process is accompanied by many technical difficulties. Therefore, I sincerely hope that peace talks will open the way to resuming standard gas transit through the territory of Ukraine," he noted.
Earlier, the Slovak Prime Minister had already emphasized that without the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, Europe risks losing its competitiveness. Therefore, Slovakia intends to continue seeking the restoration of this crucial blue fuel supply route.
