Netanyahu: A historic opportunity has emerged for establishing peace between Israel and Lebanon

Israel has a historic opportunity to conclude a peace agreement with Lebanon.

As reported by Ynet, this was stated by the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu, in a speech regarding the introduction of a ceasefire between the two countries.

"I responded to this call and agreed to a pause, or more precisely, a temporary ceasefire for 10 days, to try to advance toward reaching an agreement that we began discussing at the ambassadorial level (of Israel and Lebanon in the US - ed.) in Washington. There is a historic chance here for establishing peace," he said.

At the same time, he noted that the Israeli Defense Forces will not leave the buffer zone in southern Lebanon in order to maintain security.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to introduce a 10-day ceasefire starting today, following his phone conversations with the leaders of the two countries.
