In Russia, a 22-year-old circus performer died during a performance
A 22-year-old circus gymnast died while performing an acrobatic stunt at the Magnitogorsk State Circus in Russia's Chelyabinsk region.
This was reported by the press service of the regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
According to the department, on May 17, unidentified circus officials allowed the performer to execute a stunt without safety equipment on the "Wheel of Courage" apparatus at a height of more than 4 meters. As a result, the young woman fell onto the arena. The gymnast died in the ambulance.
Based on this incident, the regional Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Article 143 (Violation of labor safety requirements resulting in death by negligence) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
"Currently, the Investigative Committee investigator has examined the scene, requested necessary documentation, questioned witnesses of the incident, [...] and is carrying out other investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of what happened," the department noted.
