Earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 7 points are possible in Turkey - EXPERT

Turkish professor Hasan Sözbilir stated that the earthquakes of magnitude 6.1 in Balıkesir and 5.4 in Kütahya occurred in the Simav fault zone.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Turkish media, according to the professor, there are many "dead faults" in the region that have now been activated as a result of recent earthquakes.
Sözbilir noted that the Simav fault zone extends for 200 kilometers, and earthquakes with a magnitude exceeding 7 points are possible here.
The specialist emphasized that after the earthquake in Sındırgı, about 12 thousand aftershocks were registered, and in Simav - more than 500 tremors.
He warned that tremors with a magnitude of 4-4.5 points may continue in the region for several months.
Sözbilir also drew attention to the shortage of seismology specialists in Turkey and emphasized the importance of establishing specialized institutes in each region.
