At least 20 people died, more than 140 were injured as a result of a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan.

As BAKU.WS reports, this information comes from the Afghanistan International portal, citing a statement on Facebook by Maulvi Ahmadullah Wasiq, the chairman of the National Olympic Committee and the Department of Physical Culture and Sports in the Taliban government.

The official noted that the greatest destruction and casualties were recorded in the northern provinces of Samangan and Balkh, particularly in the city of Tashkurgan.

"The earthquake tremors were very strong, the number of victims may increase," wrote Ahmadullah Wasiq.

As a result of a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan, at least seven people were killed and about 150 people were injured.
