Chinese Citizens Warned About Possible Surveillance Through Souvenirs

China's Ministry of State Security has warned citizens about the dangers of foreign souvenirs that could be used for surveillance. This was reported by Xinhua news agency.
"Foreign spy and intelligence agencies may with extraordinary enthusiasm equip inconspicuous small items, such as backpack pendants, keychains, necklaces, and earrings, with real-time location tracking and eavesdropping functions," – the material states.
Additionally, the department emphasized that such souvenirs may be specifically sold to special groups of citizens, including officials and employees of secret units.
The targets of such attacks also include teachers and students of research institutions.
