At least 40 people died in a crowd crush at an election rally in India

In India, a stampede at an election rally of Indian actor and founder of the political party TVK Joseph Vijay killed 40 people, including 10 children, according to the India Today publication.
According to the information, the stampede began because Vijay was delayed in arriving. It was expected that 10,000 people would participate in the rally. However, ultimately 27,000 people gathered in the square in the city of Karur. Many protesters remained without food and water for hours in the intense heat.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident "deeply saddening."
"It is impossible to imagine how deeply my thoughts and heart are filled with heaviness when I think about what happened yesterday in Karur," Vijay wrote on the social network X. He stated that he would pay money to the families of the deceased and people who were injured in the stampede.
