A large coronal hole has begun to grow on the Sun
A large coronal hole is forming on the Sun, geomagnetic disturbance of Earth is expected at the beginning of next week. This was reported by the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"A coronal hole is growing on the Earth-facing side of the Sun. Over the past day, there has been a particularly rapid growth in its area and size, by approximately 50%," the message states.
An accelerated solar wind flow is expected in the hole area, which will lead to a disturbance in Earth's geomagnetic environment.
Prior to this, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at IKI RAS and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the strongest magnetic storm in the past two months has ended on Earth. It lasted more than 30 hours and peaked at level G2.0 - this is considered a moderate strength storm, however, it was a record indicator since a similar event on June 13-14.
