Nutritionist warns: why the mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise is dangerous for health

Russian physician-therapist, dietitian, nutritionist Maria Chernyaeva issued a warning about the negative health impact of the popular mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise, known as "ketchunez".
According to the specialist, despite the widespread popularity of mayonnaise and ketchup, the benefits of these sauces raise serious doubts, and their combined consumption can cause significant harm to the body. Chernyaeva explained in detail that the caloric content of ketchup and tomato sauces directly depends on their composition. Notably, products with a shorter list of ingredients usually contain fewer carbohydrates and calories.
"Just one tablespoon of ketchup can contain up to 4 grams of carbohydrates due to its high sugar content," warns the expert. As a healthy alternative, Chernyaeva recommends making homemade tomato sauce. For this, it's enough to use peeled tomatoes, add spices, aromatic herbs, and garlic – such a sauce will not only preserve the familiar taste but also benefit health.
The dietitian is particularly concerned about the popular practice of mixing ketchup with mayonnaise. Such a combination, according to the specialist, represents a "double blow" to the body: ketchup contains an excessive amount of sugar and salt, while mayonnaise is a high-calorie product. Together they form a combination devoid of any nutritional value.
"One has a lot of sugar and salt, the other has a lot of calories. There is no benefit in this at all," summarized Maria Chernyaeva, urging people to reconsider their eating habits in favor of healthier options.
